A good fuel system is critical to the operation of your car. Without the proper fuel pump operating at the proper fuel pressure you can have all sorts of issues with starting and/or performance.
Carburetor fuel requirements - Carburetors need a steady fuel pressure with optimal fuel pressure being between 5.5 and 6 psi. Anytime the fuel pressure is greater than 6 psi there is the chance that the fuel will over power the needle and seat inside the carburetor and cause a overflow condition which will flood the engine.
Fuel Injection Applications - there are several different pressure ratings for fuel injection. Some systems require around 40 psi where others operate near 60 psi or more based on the parameters set by the vehicle manufacturer. The majority of the fuel pumps in our street performance section can be used with the factory regulator if the vehicle was originally equipped with an EFI system. However if your building a street rod with a newer style engine there are several options including the Aeromotive Phantom fuel system and fuel pressure regulator to make the installation easy and clean.
